Whitney Herrington

CEO

Whitney Herrington brings almost fifteen years of human resources consulting and management to her work in centering people in nonprofit and philanthropic missions. Whitney helps build and drive sustainable capacity for organizations by developing, strengthening, and delivering sound and practical HR solutions and practices that are values-based, equity-focused, and human centered. Prior to her independent consulting work, she served as the EVP & Chief Operating Officer at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights and Director of People & Technology at the Southern Poverty Law Center. She earned a BBA in Finance from Western Michigan University and an MBA from Georgia State University. Originally from the Detroit-area, Whitney lives in metro D.C. She actively seeks to balance her personal and professional lives, enjoys traveling and developing new memories with her family, particularly as a new first-time mommy.

Logan Gelabert

Senior Consultant

Logan Gelabert joins Ascend People after 6 years with Planned Parenthood South Atlantic where she discovered her love of mission-driven non-profit work. For over a decade, Logan has served roles in corporate, university and non-profit human resources. Most recently as the Director of Human Resources at PPSAT, she considers herself a professional problem solver with a passion for empowering, engaging, and supporting the people who support their organization’s mission. She graduated with a BA from Florida State University and credits her ability to approach situations with curiosity and a lens of diverse perspectives to her liberal arts background. She earned a PHR certification in 2016 and a SHRM-SCP certification in 2022. A born and raised Floridian, Logan spent years enduring winters in Washington DC and Chicago before landing in Raleigh, North Carolina. She enjoys spending time outside in the warm southern sun with her family, friends and dog, Finley.

McKenzie Midock

Associate Consultant

McKenzie Midock is a seasoned leader with 15+ years in the nonprofit sector. Her varied experience spans: issue-advocacy, education, and the arts; organizations with regional, state, and national reach; and staff sizes from 10 to 200. This diverse background has equipped her with a strong specialization in nonprofit management, organizational strategy and effectiveness, people and culture, and operational systems and processes. Most recently, McKenzie served as Director of Operations for REPRO Rising Virginia where one of her primary responsibilities was managing the organization’s HR needs, including hiring, benefits, compliance, and organizational effectiveness. McKenzie attended Mercyhurst University on a partial music scholarship where she received a B.A. in Music as well as a minor in Social and Environmental Justice, which sparked her professional journey into the mission-driven sector. After college she moved to the DC region for an internship and has been working with area nonprofits ever since. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, son, and two pups.

Sonia Torres

Senior Consultant, Compensation

Sonia Torres is a seasoned compensation expert with over 12 years of experience working with organizations across a wide variety of sectors, including nonprofit, information technology, engineering, manufacturing, retail, and life sciences. A certified compensation professional (CCP) and global remuneration professional (GRP), Sonia has deep expertise delivering HR solutions to hundreds of organizations over her career, ensuring compensation programs are equitable, competitive, and support strategic goals. Prior to her work at Ascend People, she led global compensation for Asahi Kasei, a multinational Japanese holding company with over 45,000 employees, and has served clients as a compensation consultant under Culpepper and Associates, Hay Group (now Korn Ferry), and Buck Consultants. She also served on the board for the Atlanta Area Compensation Association (AACA) as the Vice President of Programs. Originally from Alaska, Sonia is based in Atlanta, GA. An avid traveler and social justice advocate, she enjoys giving back by empowering underserved youth with personal finance knowledge.

Samantha Kinzey

Executive Assistant

Samantha Kinzey has over 12 years of business operations and management experience across various industries. With this experience comes a natural interest in the HR realm. She has a keen eye for detail and an impressive track record of collaborating with cross-functional teams to align business objectives and drive successful outcomes. Her ability to effectively communicate and build strong relationships at all levels of an organization has proven instrumental in fostering a positive culture. She resides in Milwaukee with her husband and son. When she’s not spending time with her family, she loves spending time with her friends, traveling (when she can!), working out, writing, or getting lost in a good book.

Arriane Parker

Senior Consultant

Arriane Parker is a people leader that focuses on strengths-based leadership. Arrian graduated from John Jay College with a BA in Forensic Psychology. Since graduation, she has gained 10 years of experience in recruiting, hiring, and staffing across for- and non-profit organizations. As a New Jersey native and now DMV expat, Arrian has been serving as a board member for the non-profit organization Opal’s Heart over the last year. Coupling her career with her passion in giving back to the community has allowed Arrian the ability to balance work and home life through family travel and exploration.

Camille Khaleesi

Senior Consultant

Camille Khaleesi is a dynamic leader and HR professional accomplished in business/people operations, including strategic planning and with solid experience in enhancing employee experience. Camille aids organizations in the creation and/or evaluation of structure, policies, and processes. Camille has over 15 years experience as a HR Generalist with expertise across the full spectrum of the function. She has a diverse professional background spanning across multiple industries, for- and nonprofit, international and domestic. Prior to focusing primarily on consulting work, she served as the Chief Operating Officer for Mothership Strategies, LLC. She earned a Bachelors of Arts in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel hill and an MBA from Loyola University in Maryland. In her personal life, she enjoys traveling, spending time with her children and dogs, and acting as a family advocate for children with Special Needs with a concentrated focus on those with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
